Baerbock: give the victims a voice
Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock commemorates the victims of terrorism in a speech in which she appeals to society to take responsibility.

Berlin (d.de) - On yesterday’s National Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Terrorism, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (photo) pleaded in a speech for the victims to be given a voice. “In Germany as in other parts of the world, we sometimes tend to focus on the perpetrators – their motives, their ideologies, their biographies. After all, these are important issues, especially for the security of us all,” said Baerbock in Berlin. However, this focus should “never blind us to what we as a society will bear responsibility for, for all eternity – namely the victims of these attacks, the survivors and the bereaved. Especially their families and the pain they suffer.” Terrorism sought to destroy the diversity of a society by sowing fear and insecurity, said Baerbock, adding: “Though it attacks individuals, it is deliberately aimed at society as a whole.” The Minister called on society to “stand united and ensure that terrorism never achieves its goal.”
