Aschaffenburg (dpa) - Four days after the Aschaffenburg stabbing that left two dead and three seriously injured, the city is holding a memorial service on Sunday. Among those expected to attend an ecumenical service at the city’s collegiate church are Interior Minister Nancy Faeser on behalf of the German government and Bavarian premier Markus Söder.

Bishop of Würzburg Franz Jung and Protestant State Bishop Christian Kopp will jointly conduct the service. The memorial is to be interrupted from 11.45 to 11.50 am, which is the time the attack took place last Wednesday. During this period the bells of all Aschaffenburg churches will be rung. The Mayor of Aschaffenburg, Jürgen Herzing, will give a speech. Islamic representatives will also take part.

At around lunchtime on Wednesday, a 28-year-old Afghan man is reported to have attacked people he clearly did not know in a park. The suspect is now being held in a psychiatric facility. For the two-year-old boy who died in the attack, a prayer was already held at a mosque in Frankfurt on Saturday, attended by around 1,000 people.
