Oscars: glittering prospects for Germany
This year’s Academy Awards will be presented on 2 March. Several German film-makers have been nominated for an Oscar.
Los Angeles (dpa/d.de) – A host of film stars and producers from Germany are looking forward to a golden evening at this year’s Oscar Awards Ceremony on 2 March. After the announcement of the Oscar nominations, those eagerly anticipating the gala include the director Mohammad Rasoulof (photo) for a chance to take home Hollywood’s most coveted prize. Born in Iran and now a resident of Hamburg, Rasoulof is hoping to bring the Oscar for Best International Film back to Germany for his movie “The Seed of the Sacred Fig”.
Another German movie with a chance of an Oscar is “September 5”, about the attack on the Munich Olympics in 1972. Director and writer Tim Fehlbaum, screenplay writer Moritz Binder and co-author Alex David are all nominated for Best Screenplay.
The Wolfsburg-born filmmaker Edward Berger cleaned up with eight nominations for his Vatican thriller “Conclave”. The Oscar for Best Film beckons, along with nominations in categories such as Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor (Ralph Fiennes), and Best Costume Design (Lisy Christl).
Gerd Nefzer has already picked up two Oscars, one for “Blade Runner 2049” and one for “Dune”. Now the German special effects wizard could add to his trophy cabinet for his work on “Dune: Part Two”.
