Syrian workers are needed
Many of the one million or so Syrians in Germany are well integrated. The German government does not plan to force any of them to leave the country.
Berlin (d.de) – Following the ousting of Bashar al-Assad in Syria, German Chancellor does not wish to send back any Syrian refugees who are well integrated into German society. He said that anyone who spoke German and had a contract of employment could feel secure in Germany. “This also applies to Syrians,” emphasised Scholz. “We will not be asking them to give up their jobs and leave.”
German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (photo) had already warned that the upheavals in Syria could have negative consequences for the German labour market - especially in the health sector. Health Minister Karl Lauterbach said there were over 6,000 Syrian doctors who were fully integrated and indispensable for the healthcare system.
Verdi union boss Frank Werneke also stressed that many Syrians were needed in Germany: “Bei it in nursing care, hospitals, postal and parcel delivery services, the mail-order sector and many other professions. Refugees from Syria help keep this country running in very many areas.”
