Located in the facilities of the Feguibox in Bata, Equatorial Guinea, the boxing dragon club, is an association of approximately 50 members, which covers an essential and very important social and motivating action, in which the members help each other to achieve their goals, supporting each other in training and daily life.
In the club there is no difference between gender, nationality, religion, age, tribe, or social status as well in the club members are included disabled persons. In the other hand the prectice of the sport generally is promoting fairness, health, education and peace amongst athletes and the society.
The head of the club José Asumu is called “Mister” amongst the club members. After his boxing career in Spain José Asumu came back to Guinea Equatorial and founded the club Dragon Boxing. José Asumu managed to create a family around the boxing.

Goal and purpose of the project:

The lack of promotion in sport and the high unemployment rate amongst young groups, we believe seriously damages the dignity of our community and their self-esteem and the impossibility to generate fights abroad avoid them from advance as professionals.
The objective of the project is to keep the club at full capacity, encouraging more young people to join us and achieve real goals through sport, recognition and community pride.
Show that selfishness is not innate in the human, that union is strength and that the honest bonds of a community can benefit all its members, giving like that, hope to the local young population.

Motivation of the applicant / applicant team:

The spirit of sport is important for the club because we believe it is a vital element in the health, happiness and well-being of children, youth and adults. According to UNICEF the research reveals that youth participation in structured recreational activities contributes to their physical and psychosocial development, and can teach fundamental values and life skills - strong work, discipline, teamwork, impartiality and respect to others that shape the behavior of individuals and help them to pursue their goals and respond appropriately to the events of their own lives and those of others.
Faced with a lack of resources and a downturn in the economy, the club and its members are not able to cope with the different costs that are generated, nor to obtain the individual and collective materials we need.
We really believe that the feeling of unity through sport must be imbued in our youth,as a positive feeling to start building a new way of thinking and overcoming the challenges with a group mentality, in which all Equatoguineans are involved, in order to build up a common future.

Use of prize money:

The project is consisting of 3 mini-projects, each one more challenging than the previous one, in order to be more viable in the achievement of objectives and not to create very broad expectations that won’t be fulfilled:

  1. Improving the boxing equipment of Dragon Boxing
  2. Promote two international fights (Cameroun and Nigeria)
  3. Sport and educational training of one of our athletes in Spain, Valencia (Sport Fellowship JOSE ASUMU)
