Project description:

The majority of girls and women who work in the Dandora dumpsite are without skills and education. This means that the only place that they can work in that does not require education nor skills is the dumpsite.
Improving livelihoods of women and girls Working in the dumpsite is a project that provides vocational and entrepreneurship skills to girls and women both in the slums and those working in the dumpsite with a view of making them become competitive in the job market, but also creators of jobs. Once the girls finished their training, DADREG support those who wish to venture into business with by buying for them machines, materials and paying 3 months rent. This help create jobs for others whom the girls and women are able to absorb in their businesses.

Goal and purpose of the project:

The goal of this project is to rehabilitate women and girls who work in the dumpsite and get them off the dumpsite by supporting them to venture in sustainable livelihoods away from the toxic environment that affects their lives and those of their children.
The purpose of this project is to empower women and girls who work and scavenge in the dumpsite with skills and resources to enable them get off the dumpsite to be able to take care of their families.

Motivation of the applicant / applicant team:

The applicant grew up in the slums of Nairobi. He went through hardships that make people, especially the youth, lose hope in life. His passion was to help others who are in difficult circumstances like those he was in when he was growing up in the slums. However, the "bottom line" is not his only concern, and that is where his most important skills can be found, in my view. He deeply cares about the people he serves and helps. George and the team believe that when women and girls are empowered, the livelihoods of family improves and they are able to fend for themselves and their families.

Use of prize money:

The prize money will enable us to improve on the DADREG Vocational Training Centre by expanding the training facility and purchase of more equipment that are needed to train more girls and women who still work in the dumpsite as well as those who resides in the slums.
