Chemnitz officially becomes a 2025 European Capital of Culture

Chemnitz officially becomes a 2025 European Capital of Culture The title was awarded to the Saxon city of Chemnitz in Germany and Nova Gorica in Slovenia at a ceremony in Bad Ischl in Austria. Each year since 1985 the European Union has selected cities from its member states with the aim of building links between countries and boosting Europe’s cultural diversity. Thanks to broad participation, strong partnerships and comprehensive plans, Chemnitz met the requirements to hold the title in 2025, the report said, noting how these reflect the city’s unique culture and connections with Europe. Chemnitz’ programme of events for its year as European City of Culture is entitled “C the Unseen” and includes around 150 projects and 1000 events. The opening ceremony will take place on 18 January. The city expects around 2 million visits to events during 2025.
