Project description:

One Voice Initiative For Women and Children Emancipation(OVIWCE) is a as the name implied is a child empowerment and women emancipation non-profit development project that introduces the proper means of detecting, evaluating and providing solutions to emanating issues of the women and children in Nigeria. The project started from Oyo State, precisely Ibadan-North Local Government Area with the first set of volunteers from the University of Ibadan.

The Project started in May, 2016 with an Outreach to over 8 less-privileged homes i.e. Orphanage, Motherless and Disabilities. Monetary and Gift Donations were from the friends and families of the few volunteers we had as at that period.

In August, 2016, The project proceeded with a Fitness For Funds (FFF) Outreach which was aimed at raising funds for the identified and selected homes with weeks of fitness activities rounded up by visitations for proper dissemination of donated materials to the homes.

In March, 2017, The project proceeded with a commemoration of the International Women’s Day tagged #BeBoldForChange. The day was marked with campaign activities aimed towards sensitizing the populace of the need for the Girl Child and other Gender-Based violence.

There are several other projects ongoing e.g. Peer-To-Pair, Feed 27517 Streets, Child Abuse etc.

Some of the Less-fortunate homes visited thus far includes;

  1. Oluyole Cheshire Home for the Disabilities.
  2. Jesus Christ Ministries Outreach.
  3. Children of Promise Homes
  4. Little Saint Orphanage
  5. Ibadan Motherless babies homes

Some of the communities sensitized includes;

  1. Ajibode
  2. Agbowo
  3. Bodija
  4. Dugbe
  5. Abadina

Through these projects, the Children and the Women have enjoyed;

  1. One to One Sensitization: Through one-to-one communication with out beneficiaries, these communities have been able to benefit from asking direct questions and acquisition of proper answers from our volunteers.
  2. Community Outreach: Several of our community outreach has been directed solely towards the women and children of these communities. They see it as a time to co-exist and have fun.
  3. Coordinated Fitness and Entertaining Activities: In other to enhance health and proper well-being, some of these communities have benefited from our weekly fitness activities while also getting involved.
  4. Distribution of Consumables and Gift Items: These communities benefit from distribution of several monetary and gift donations from volunteers and students.
  5. Mentorship: The children in the communities enjoy proper mentoring and follow-up from our array of volunteers covering several aspects from education to personal development.
  6. Public Awareness: Through our several campaigns and outreaches, the communities have been able to get first-hand information on certain issues concerning them.

Our project events typically take maximum of One(1) month with activities such as;

  1. Brainstorming: This affords the volunteers and facilitators time to plan, set goals and bring-up opinions.
  2. Set-Out: This affords the volunteers the opportunity of engaging the public on these issues to get public opinion.
  3. Pre-Outreach: This is the period which affords the communities the opportunity to meet with volunteers on a first visit.
  4. Outreach/Sensitization: This serves as the major visitation by the volunteers and facilitators to these communities for the sensitization and distribution activities as the case may be.
  5. Post-Outreach/Follow-Up: This is the follow-up on progress of each beneficiaries by a team of volunteers. This affords proper questioning and answering of pending questions.

Goal and purpose of the project

Our goals is to primarily be the voice for the voiceless. One Voice Initiative for Women and Children Emancipation was founded on the need for a better tomorrow.

Our main goals include pointing the global community in a common direction on issues of particular concern for Nigeria, such goals include achieving universal primary education, reducing child mortality, achieving gender equality among-st others.

  • To render assistance to the less privileged children by making provisions for medical assistance, health-care and preventive medical services.
  • To render assistance to the physically handicapped.
  • To provide monetary aid and humanitarian services to the less privileged in times of need.
  • To promote advance moral education, charity and general welfare of the people.
  • To render assistance to orphaned and other less privilege children for their subsistence, shelter, education and medical care to establish social welfare institutions engaged in promoting these specific objectives.
  • To render assistance both directly and through establish social welfare organization that will help rehabilitate women in distress, especially widows without any means of support and those ill-treated by heir husbands or other members of their family and promote their vocational skill and self reliance.

Motivation of the applicant / applicant team:

In building together a team of young people that are passionate for women emancipation and children empowerment our motivation has always been making our immediate environment a better place for women, less privileged children/orphans and the community in general.

We discovered that if we don’t anything but watch, Women's rights will continue to be reduced, restricted and reversed. We want Women's voices to be heard and listened to. We have advocated for gender equality in one of our previous walks on the International Women’s Day which was tagged “Be Bold for Change”.

We believe that with proper sensitization people would be open to making gender equality a reality. We want to make an impact not only in our immediate environment but also in the global environment.

Although, our priority right now is our immediate environment. Hilary Clinton once said “Human rights are Women's rights, and Women's rights are human rights”.

We also have a passion for empowering children especially the less privileged/orphans. We have given monetary aid and humanitarian services to various orphanages in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.

We have done these in previous programs which include “Ibadan Orphanage Tour” and “Fitness for Funds”. In the former we provided monetary aid in terms of material possessions to selected orphanages and in the latter we tried to raise funds for selected orphanages, both in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.

With our upcoming Peer to Pair project which is aimed at training these children in particular skills, we intend to empower them so they can nurture potentials and prepare them for a better tomorrow. By doing this we can almost assure them a better future.

Use of prize money:

To fund future projects like the :

“Peer to Pair Project “ which aims at helping talented kids across Ibadan and Nigeria nurture their potentials by mentoring them and helping them home their skills while also sensitizing the, about world challenges and how to tackle them.

  1. “Ibadan Orphanage Tour” - we visit different orphanages across Ibadan where we reach out to the less privileged kids and help put a smile on their faces and also showing them there is more to the world and its within their grasp.
  2. “International Women's Day” - is an international day and we help promote gender equality and also advocate for the girl child.
  3. To create awareness to the general public about issues and achieving the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)
  4. Welfare for volunteers and facilitators during outings
  5. Publicity, promotion and T-Shirt Production
