The German school-based drama series “Maxton Hall – The World Between Us” has ranked number one on a major streaming service in more than 120 countries. Find out everything you need to know about this hit series from Germany. 

So what is “Maxton Hall” about?

The exclusive world of a British elite boarding school provides the backdrop for “Maxton hall”, a globally successful German series available on the Amazon Prime streaming service. Based on a novel, the German-produced series is all about Ruby Bell (played by Harriet Herbig-Matten), an ambitious young lady who lands a scholarship to attend Maxton Hall, a fictitious elite school. At the school she meets the charismatic and wealthy James Beaufort (played by Damian Hardung), whose life seems perfect at first glance. The boarding school’s glamorous facade conceals a whole host of intrigues, secrets and emotions, however.

What makes “Maxton Hall” so successful?

Ranked number one in more than 120 countries and translated into 19 languages, the German series is breaking numerous records. Why is “Maxton Hall” so popular? Love, friendship, self-discovery, social differences: the spectrum of topics and genres - from drama and romance to scenes packed with tension - is considerable and appeals to a broad target group, especially young adults. Maxton Hall is based on the first volume (“Save Me”) of a bestselling trilogy by German author Mona Kasten. The story about Ruby and James already had a large fan following even before the film adaptation came out.

Where was “Maxton Hall” filmed?

The backdrop for “Maxton Hall” is a wonderful old school building with magnificent facades, gothic windows and sweeping staircases. The series is set in the UK, with some scenes having been shot in London and Oxford. However, most of the filming took place in Germany, above all at Marienburg Castle near Hanover. This splendid neo-gothic castle, which was built in the mid-19th century as a summer residence for Queen Marie of Hanover, is surrounded by picturesque forests and is one of the region’s most important architectural monuments. 

Will there be other seasons of “Maxton Hall”?

Shortly after Season 1 was premiered, Amazon Prime announced that a second season was to follow. It will be based on “Save You”, the second book in the bestselling trilogy by Mona Kasten.
