Berlin (d.de / dpa). 1,000 days after Russia’s invasion, Germany has assured Ukraine of its support. Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Rio that arms deliveries to Russia would be among the issues he would be discussing with Chinese President Xi Jinping. At the beginning of the week during a visit to Kyiv, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said: “Germany stands firmly by Ukraine’s side, along with many partners worldwide.”

On Monday, Baerbock and the EU foreign ministers agreed to impose further sanctions on Iran in response to its drone deliveries to Russia. The decision was also taken at the meeting to extend the EU training mission EUMAM until November 2026. Previously, G7 financial aid totalling 50 billion dollars was agreed on with the USA. Germany recently pledged a further 200 million euros in emergency humanitarian aid for this winter – in addition to the quarter of a billion euros provided in 2024 to maintain the energy sector targeted by Russia. There are also numerous privately organised aid deliveries from Germany to Ukraine.
