Berlin (d.de) – The social advocacy organisation Sozialverband VdK has been campaigning for social justice in Germany for 75 years. The association celebrates its anniversary today in Berlin under the motto “Sozial in die Zukunft” – “Building a social future”. Around 300 guests are expected to attend, including representatives of associations, society and political parties as well as Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

“We can proudly say that we have played a pivotal role in shaping and supporting a wide range of societal developments since the umbrella organisation was founded in January 1950. Our voice as the biggest social advocacy organisation is more important than ever,” said VdK President Verena Bentele before the ceremony.

Sozialverband VdK was founded on 28 January 1950 to represent the interests of war invalids, war survivors and social pensioners. Today it is Germany’s largest social advocacy organisation: with a federal association in Berlin and 13 regional associations, its total membership is 2.3 million. It campaigns politically against cutbacks in social services and supports the interests of its members at social legal advice centres.
