Strong signal – quota for women
The grand coalition has agreed to introduce a quota for women in German boardrooms.
Federal Minister for Women Manuela Schwesig predicted a change of culture after the grand coalition agreed to introduce a legal quota for women in the boardroom at the end of November 2014. From 2016, 30% of the positions on the supervisory boards of companies that are listed on the stock exchange and have full codetermination are to be filled by women. If a woman cannot be found, the position remains unoccupied. The current proportion of women in the boardrooms of the 160 companies listed in the DAX, MDAX, SDAX and TEC-DAX indices is 18.9%.
